The 1936 Summer Olympics, held in Berlin, witnessed an unprecedented turnout with 3,963 athletes from 49 National Olympic Committees (NOCs) participating. A total of 129 events were contested across 19 sports, the highest number in Olympic history until that point.

Germany dominated the medal table, securing 89 medals, including 33 golds. The United States finished second with 83 medals, while Hungary took third place with 41. The youngest medallist was 12-year-old Inge Sorensen of Denmark, who won bronze in the 200m breaststroke.
