FBI names suspect in attempted Trump assassination

Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, identified as gunman

Shooter killed by Secret Service, motive unknown

Washington, D.C. - The FBI has identified 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania as the suspect in Saturday's attempted assassination of President Donald Trump.

Crooks was shot and killed by Secret Service law enforcement officials after he opened fire on the president's motorcade as it approached a rally in Dayton, Ohio.

The motive for the attack is still unknown, but authorities are investigating whether Crooks had any ties to extremist groups.

Trump was not injured in the attack, but one of his supporters, Ronny Jackson, R-Texas, was wounded.

Jackson said in a statement that his nephew was injured in the shooting. Jackson said that his family was "heartbroken" by the attack.

The Secret Service said in a statement that the gunman was outside the rally and fired multiple shots at the president's motorcade.

Two officials spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly about the investigation.
