Manchester City's Champions League hopes ended by Real Madrid

Heartbreak in Madrid as City concede late equalizer and lose on penalties

Phil Foden's magnificent goal not enough for Pep Guardiola's side

Manchester City's hopes of winning the Champions League were ended in dramatic fashion on Wednesday night as they lost 4-3 on penalties to Real Madrid in the semi-finals.

City had taken the lead in the first half through a brilliant goal from Phil Foden, but Real Madrid equalized late on through Rodrygo.

The game went to extra-time, but neither side could find a winner, so the tie went to penalties.

Real Madrid converted all four of their penalties, while City missed two, with Riyad Mahrez and Ilkay Gundogan both failing to score.

The defeat was a bitter blow for City, who had been hoping to win the Champions League for the first time.

It was also a disappointing end to the season for Pep Guardiola's side, who had won the Premier League title and the Carabao Cup.

Real Madrid will now face Liverpool in the final of the Champions League.
